Watching our first sunset

We arrived before noon at Baltra airport, Galapagos. Our guide, Victor, greeted us with a warm hello and led us to a bench where the remainder of passengers awaited patiently for our arrival. A few minutes after we boarded a bus headed to the highlands of Santa Cruz, the second largest island in the Galapagos. The scenery was breathtaking. On our short journey we crossed different types of vegetation; some so green and vast it seemed like a safari. Giant turtles and finches greeted us as we walked past them, just inches away. It amazed us how close we were to these magnificent creatures. Victor explained in detail the nature of each animal and their approximate age. Some of the turtles were over 200 years old! Later we were led to a red lagoon where ducks, giant turtles and other birds bathed in the cooling waters. In the evening we saw the sun set over a horizon of blue seas, islands and green luscious lands. Shades of orange, pink, gray, blue, green casted a glow over this incredible paradise before the last light of dusk faded.
